Inspiration from Photographs
Rene Burri- Swiss
- Burri is probably my favourite photographer. His B/W images have some superb composition and contrast, being most noted for his pictures of Che Guevara, Picasso and Le Corbusier. You can see more of his photographs at Magnum - Rene Burri.
Nikos Economopoulos- Greek
- Economopoulos produces very strong B/W shots, having travelled extensively through Greece, Turkey and Eastern Europe. You can see more of his photographs at Magnum - Nikos Economopoulos.
Stuart Franklin- British
- I feel that Franklin delivers impact and hard reality in his photojournalism; most noted for his work in the 1989 Tianamen Square uprising in China. You can see more of his photographs at Magnum - Stuart Franklin.
Jean Gaumy- French
- Some very strong photojournalism, notably his shots in Iran during the 80’s. You can see more of his photographs at Magnum - Jean Gaumy.
Horst P Horst- German
- Primarily a fashion photographer for Vogue, who produced some outstanding and striking portraits and still lifes. You can see more of his photographs at Staley-Wise - Horst P Horst.
Chris Johns- American
- Some fantastic colour shots of wildlife from this National Geographic photographer. You can see more of his photographs at Nikon World - Chris Johns.
Steve McCurry- American
- Some stunning portraiture, including this famous shot of a young Afghan refugee in 1985 that was was on the cover of National Geographic. I think that his work is outstanding in portraying the emotions of his subjects, making a direct connection with their country and culture. Peter Marlow- British
- Some great photographs in both B/W and colour, sometimes celebrating the everyday object. You can see more of his photographs at Magnum - Peter Marlow.
